Cas Amhrán - Songs from School
Cois na hAbhna - Wednesday 27th May 8pm
Many people say that they have forgotten whatever Irish they learned at school. Be that as it may, the number that cannot recall a verse or two of the songs or poems learned at school or at Irish College on hearing them is few indeed. Songs like “Trasna na dTonnta” and “Báidín Fheidhlimí” as well as poems like “Mise Raifteirí” and “Cill Chais” are so engraved in our memories that they prove that the efforts of our education system were not a total loss. “Cas Amhrán” or “Sing a Song” was the title bestowed by the late pioneering educator, Micheál Ó hEidhin on his songbook for schoolchildren which was published back in 1975. “Cas Amhrán” is also the name of the sing-song that takes place at Fleadh Nua.
