Fleadh Nua 2018 Programme

Cas Amhrán

The Cloister Bar - Thur 24th May 8pm

Deir a lán daoine go bhfuil aon Ghaeilge a d’fhoghlaim siad ar scoil ghlan dearmadta acu. Bíodh sin amhlaidh, is beag duine nach bhfuil in ann cuimhneamh ar véarsa nó dhó de na hamhráin a mhúineadh ar scoil nó ins na coláistí samhraidh nuair a chloistear iad. Amhráin cosúil le ‘Trasna na dTonnta’, ‘Beidh Aonach Amárach’, ‘Báidín Fheilimí’ srl. – tá siad chomh neadaithe sin inár gcuimhne go gcruthaíonn siad nár theip ar an gcóras oideachais go huile agus go hiomlán. Nuair a foilsíodh amhránleabhar do pháistí scoile i 1975, ba é ‘Cas Amhrán’ an teideal a thug an t-oideachasóir ceannródaíoch Micheál Ó hEidhin, nach maireann dó. Is amhránaí, ceoltóir agus tionlacaí den scoth í Emer Ni Fhlatharta mar a chruthaíonn a gaisce sa Chomórtas Idirnáisiúnta Amhrán Pan Cheilteach le déanaí. Is cúis mhór ríméid dúinn go bhfuil an turas aerach meidhreach seo ar bhóithrín na smaointe le cuimhní na hóige tógtha ar láimh aici. Bronnfar fáltais na himeachta ar Chomhairle na dTuismitheoirí, Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg.

Many people say that they have forgotten whatever Irish they learned at school. Be that as it may, the number that cannot recall a verse or two of the songs learned at school, or at Irish College, on hearing them is few indeed. Songs like ‘Trasna na dTonnta’, ‘Beidh Aonach Amárach’, ‘Báidín Fheilimí’ are so engraved in our memories that they prove that the efforts of our education system were not a total loss. ‘Cas Amhrán’ or ‘Sing a Song’ was the title bestowed by the late pioneering educator, Micheál Ó hEidhin on his songbook for schoolchildren which was published back in 1975. Emer O’Flaherty is an accomplished singer, musician and accompanist in her own right as evidenced by her recent victory in the Pan Celtic International Song Contest. It is a great source of delight that Emer will lead this light-hearted nostalgic trip back to the days of our youth. All event proceeds go to the Parents’ Council, Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg.
