The Fleadh Down In Ennis

Fleadh Nua 2023 Programme

Danú in Concert

glór –  Sun 29th May, 8.00pm - €20

One of the most exciting and enduring trad groups of our time, Danú, make a very welcome return to Ennis to perform at the closing concert of Fleadh Nua 2016. The band came together twenty one years ago to take part in the Lorient Inter-Celtic Festival in Brittany in 1995.  Steeped in the music and language and hailing from Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Waterford and Kerry, Danú have entertained audiences throughout North America and Europe.

Traditional music is an internationally recognised and respected art form and its appeal derives from the excitement and emotion it generates in listeners.  It appeals to the heart and the soul.  It makes you want to tap your fingers and your feet as the rhythm takes hold of you.  It makes you want to cry as the emotion and story of a sad and tragic song or air affect you. Few bands deliver such emotion and excitement as Danú.

Star vocalist, Nell Ní Chróinín from Gaeltacht Mhúscraí in West Cork has joined Danú, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the band's legacy. Nell's multiple awards include TG4 Traditional Singer of the Year 2012 and she was also the winner of the prestigious Oireactas 'Corn Uí Riada' award in 2014.

Danú have recorded eight albums and a live DVD, a sure sign of a much sought after band. Fleadh Nua are delighted to welcome them to Ennis on Sunday, 29th May in glór.
