For many years, Joe O’Connor has been the driving force behind the very successful Singing Sessions Programme at Fleadh Nua with some of the best known and respected singers from Ireland and Britain taking part. Joe O’Connor devised the Gradam Fleadh Nua programme which honours the awardees for their contribution over many years to this wonderful tradition – singers like Nora Butler, Paddy Berry, Mary Brogan, the late Bruce Scott, Rosie Stewart, Jimmy O’Brien and many more. This year we will honour Joe himself on Saturday 26th May, not only for his contribution to Fleadh Nua, Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and the many singing events around the country, but also for his friendship, support and his contribution to the work of Comhaltas over many years.
Friday 25th May - MC will be well known Clare singer and Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann winner, Denise Whelan. Saturday 26th May and Sunday 27th May - MC will be Joe Joe Marrinan and Senan Lillis, with special guest Seamus Brogan and Gradam Fleadh Nua awardee, Joe O’Connor. Joe Joe and Senan are members of the Chapel Gate Singers Club, who meet on the last Friday of the month in O’Keeffe’s Bar, Cooraclare, Co. Clare.
